Looking Back at 2020, Looking Forward to 2021

2020 was an incredibly challenging year for everyone. Massive disruptions in global supply chains, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, left no person or community unaffected.

While many companies were forced to shut their doors, Port City Logistics was fortunate and very bless to be deemed an "essential" business, meaning we never slowed down. Our top priority in the beginning and continuing today is the safety of our Port City Logistics Team Members. A huge debt of gratitude goes out to the men and women of our Human Resources and Safety & Security departments for tackling this issue head-on. Ensuring that new COVID-19 safety protocols were implemented at every level of our company was a monumental task. Hats off for a job well done! To our customers and vendors, we thank you for your patience, then and now, as we strive towards excellence every day on your behalf - especially when handling critical freight like toilet paper!

Growth in 2020

New Team Members & Accomplishments

The strength of any great company is their team members. 2020 saw hiring in several key areas to support our growth strategy. New team members include two Process Improvement Engineers, one Industrial Engineer, a new Director of FTZ & Bonded Freight, a new Executive Vice President & Director of Freight Services, and a new Vice President of Digital Strategy.

Another strategic accomplishment was the acquisition of Empire Logistics, a drayage transportation company in Savannah, GA., giving Port City Logistics additional capacity to handle freight in and out of the ports.

New Technology

Port City Logistics was excited to install a new Labor Management System (LMS) in our warehouse in 2020. This new LMS gives our warehouse managers the ability to better manage labor based on production needs. Ryan Hunt, one of our Warehouse General Managers, said the system "has been an instrumental tool in turning [the warehouse] around financially...The data and information provided through the reporting tools has allowed us to do almost double the work with half the labor."

Another technology win in 2020 was the creation of a 3 Year Digital Road Map. COVID-10 increased e-commerce volumes by 10 years or more. Having a solid digital road map is critical to long-term success.

2020 also saw the implementation of Active Track - a customer portal that allows complete container visibility for our customer. The ability to contact PCL directly through the portal, eliminating timely emails and phone calls, is a huge improvement in our overall customer experience.

New Facilities

Port City Logistics was excited to announce the construction of a new 1.2 million-square-foot warehouse & distribution center located .6 miles from Georgia Ports Authority. This new facility will double as PCL's new headquarters as well. Scheduled to open in the 4th quarter of 2021, this $80 million investment shows our commitment to the future of our company.  Learn more about this upcoming project here.New PCL Facility Aerial Rendering
